Please critic my work. Any tips on how to use oil pastel?

  1. Nice one! I’ve used oil pastel a long time ago and I remember using turpenoid with it to blend and make washes. You need good ventilation if you use it that way. Looks like maybe you did that at the bottom.


      • Turpenoid is a solvent used to clean oil paint off brushes. It can also be used to “liquefy” the oil pastels. It is turpentine with the smell removed… but you DO need ventilation. If you don’t have that, maybe try acrylics or water soluble crayons like Caran d’Ache. Hope this helps.


      • I saw someone use hair dryer to melt pastel. Does that work too? I do use acrylics with most of my painting cuz I’m a beginner and I think that’s the basic way to start painting. Hehe.
